Penny Langhammer, Ph.D.

SENIOR DIRECTOR FOR SCIENCE

Education

Ph.D. Biology, Arizona State University
Master of Environmental Management, Duke University
B.S. Psychology, Arizona State University

Dr. Penny Langhammer leads the organization’s Science strategy, including our efforts to identify and promote the conservation of Key Biodiversity Areas (KBA) and assess species for the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. She co-chairs the Technical Working Group of the KBA Partnership committee and led the development of A Global Standard for the Identification of Key Biodiversity Areas on behalf of the IUCN SSC-WCPA Joint Task Force on Biodiversity and Protected Areas. Penny has a strong interest in amphibian conservation and also serves as Director of Key Biodiversity Areas for the Amphibian Survival Alliance.

Penny is an adjunct professor of biology with the School of Life Sciences at Arizona State University, where she maintains active research collaborations. Prior to joining Global Wildlife Conservation, she founded and served as the principal of Terra Consilium, a biodiversity consulting firm. Penny began her career at Conservation International (CI), working for nearly a decade to support CI programs and partners across the globe in defining science-based outcomes and priorities for conservation.
